Next time you log into ErgScores.com, you’ll find a search box on the top of the page. We rolled out some basic search functionality (advanced features coming soon) as we gear up for the fall season. This new search functionality allows you to find shared scores and workouts by simple keyword queries.
Perhaps, you’re looking to get in 10,000 meters. Simply search for 10k or 10,000 to get some workout ideas. Looking for UT2 work, we can find those for you. Next time you get a little bored on the erg, check to see if ErgScores.com can find something fun.
In addition to search, we’ll be working on some other items for the fall season:
- Enhanced graphs
- Simplified data entry
- More Facebook features
- Making the erg not hurt so much….
As always, feel free to contact us if you have any comments, suggestions or needs.

Alpha recommended a while ago that I should write a Facebook application for ErgScores.com. I’ve been busy with a few other updates the last few months (I still have a lot of stuff that I’m trying to get to beta quality), but I finally took the time to see what all the fuss was about Facebook. Writing an application didn’t prove to be too hard.
I need some people to try it out. Just log into your facebook account and then navigate to http://apps.facebook.com/ergscores. This will allow you to add the ErgScores.com application. After adding the application, you’ll need to set your ErgScores.com username (i.e. jwagner) and how many workouts you wish to display. That’s it.
Let me know if you have any suggestions.

It’s been a year since we announced we were going live. I told somebody this evening that I build ErgScores.com because I need to scratch an itch — and I’ve felt like I’ve chicken pox for the past year. I’m pretty sure I’ll always have an itch. We’ve put a lot features on-line in the past 12 months. Here’s a few of my favorites:
The next 12 months should bring even bigger changes — including more graphing features and expanded team account ability.
Thanks for making our first year so enjoyable!

Okay, I can’t rap like Naughty by Nature. Some rowers in the blogosphere are little miffed by not being able to promote their website on the rowing’s best media source. I’m a feed junkie and I’m constantly using Google Blog Search to discover new rowing feeds. So I got together with some of blogger friends out there and started putting together a list of rowing blogs. It’s by no means an authoritative list, so please send me rowing blogs that are you are reading.
The list includes an rss feed (of course) and an OPML feed. You can simply download the opml file to import into your feed reader.
If you haven’t been by ErgScores.com in a while, come see the new changes. We are continuing to grow the new “social” features which allows you to tag and share your workouts. We’ll soon by adding a rower of the week feature. If you’ve got anybody you’d like to recommend, or want to nominate yourself (there’s nothing wrong with that), send me an email.
Coming Soon:
- New Graphs
- More social features
- Rower of the Week

ErgScores.com is officially joining the Web 2.0 mania. We’ve recently added the ability to share and tag your scores and workouts. Now, when you enter a new workout your score will be shared (unless you check the “Do Not Share” box). You’ll also have the ability to tag your data with keywords. For now you can simple browse public entries by tags (workout, pain, hurt, pr). We’ll be expanding on this capability in the coming weeks.
We’ve also updated the My Community section with a new mashup. The new mashup makes it much easier to browser the globe. It’s also much easier to navigate through the top rowers. We’ll be integrating the mashup with the tags and other social aspects shortly.
For all you bloggers out there, the tags will also be intergated into your daily erg blog entry.
Looking forward to reading your tags on ErgScores.com.

We have a minor update, that might be a major convenience for some users. Thanks to tetmin who contacted us with the following suggestion:
One thing that I think would be great to add (and not difficult) is the ability to input scores by 500m split times. For example if I do a 3×7min session I record the average 500m splits and not the distance, saves the user having to convert everything to meters.
Great idea! Now, you can enter scores and workouts via your 500m split. The new feature allows you to toggle score/workout entry between your 500m split or the total time.
We also want to thank David Churbuck and “Alpha Rower” for their praise of ErgScores.com. We’re getting a lot of great feedback on the erg blogging feature.
As always feel free to contact me with any of your suggestions, problems or comments.

We’re calling our latest feature “erg blogging” but you may just call it a training log. Our new daily erg blogging feature will automatically post your daily workouts and scores to your Wordpress, Moveable Type, Blogger or Live Journal blog. To use the erg blogging feature you need to click on the daily erg blog link under the My Profile section. Then specify the following fields:
- Name (can be anything)
- Password
- URL (full url to xml-rpc handler for Wordpress or atom handler for Blogger)
- Hour — in GMT time
- Blog ID
- Category — comma separated list of categories
We’ve got a few examples of the feature at:
If you’ve got a training log (rowing or otherwise) we’d love to read it. If you have any questions, suggestions or problems let us know.

I know I’ve been pretty quiet on the blog lately.
That doesn’t mean I’m not working. The rowing season may have moved off the ergs and onto the water, but that doesn’t mean we’re slowing down.
One of the very cool new things I’m working on was inspired by David Churbuck. David is doing some “erg blogging” over on his blog. I think that’s pretty cool. So, I’m working on the ability to automatically post your workouts and training log right to your blog. No need to record those meters twice. Just upload them to ErgScores.com and we’ll put them on your blog for you.
The great thing about blogs is RSS feeds. I’m an RSS junkie. Unfortunately, my friends over at row2k.com are not. I’ve been waiting for a row2k feed for a long time. The wait is over. ErgScores.com is now hosting an RSS feed for row2k. Fire up your reader and subscribe: http://ergscores.com/row2k.xml. Try it out at let me know if you have any problems.
If you’re looking for other rowing feeds, Fight in the Dog has some good recommendations (as well as FTD itself).

It’s been a while since our last update, but we think the wait was worth it. We’ve got free team accounts. Team accounts are a great for way for crews, big or small, to manage their erg scores.
Here’s what you get when you create a team account:
- Create up to 3 subteams (i.e. Varsity, JV, Novice).
- Ability to give rowers the following roles: Coach, Admin or Rower.
- Easily disable rowers or set their status to Alumni
- Ability to create team scores. Scores are accessible to all team members on-line.
- Advanced Excel reports coming soon.
- Boat lineups coming soon.
- Daily workouts coming soon.
Enjoy the new team accounts. We’ll have a lot more available in this section soon. As always, don’t hesitate to contact us if you have problems or suggestions.
